Introductions

Thought I'd try to get some activity going...

I was at NYU back in 1998 going for a Music Technology bachelors degree (which was going to move towards a Film Scoring masters). But the music department was much more competitive than I'd expected... big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a big pond... and it ruined me. I left on a medical leave two months later and returned home.

While I was only there for a short period of time, I still have wonderful memories of the city, NYU, and my dorm on the 38th floor of the Water Street residence.

I'm hoping to return someday for my masters degree.

Who are you? :o)

John Osborne, class of 2002 (well 2001, there was some confusion, but, well NYU's like that). Tisch School of the Arts, Film.

Well now that that was put so quickly - that's the raw info on who I am. I must say, though, that NYU's one of those few places where you can get engaged and broken up, meet famous people, get changed into a vampire, gamble away your life savings, and thoroughly enjoy doing it.

The other place is Las Vegas.

I've just been accepted into the Steinhardt School of Education's PhD program in Educational Technology and Communication. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips or thougths on doing 4-5 years at NYU in a small program? I"m mainly concerned with the group support, as I love to study with others and have warm supportive work environments in which to do very challenging work. Any thoughts would be great.

Well, in a small program you'll probably have a better chance at some group support. I was an undergrad in Psych (a HUGE program) and if you really didn't kick and scream, you were just a number.

Me thinks it'll be what you make of it--NYU folks tend to get in & get out and zoom off into their lives after class. That was my experience (and probably due to where MY head was at at the time).

      Congratulations Caleb...and good luck!
